How does Amoxicillin work for a sinus infection?

People often have the misconception that anti-biotics are always the go to for a sinus infection. The truth is many sinus infections are viral and not bacterial so anti-biotics won't help some sinus infections. That said anti-biotics can be a lifesaver when you have the type of bad sinus infection they do help. I like to try to avoid taking anti-biotics whenever possible but sometimes you do need them.

Amoxicillin is an anti-biotic. What an anti-biotic does is kill bacteria and/or stop bacteria from growing. With amoxicillin, it stops the bacteria from reproducing and growing, and eventually the amoicillin will kill the bacteria. Dead bacteria cells are then removed from your body.

If you do have a sinus infection caused by bacteria amoxicillin should make you feel better in a relatively short period of time. If this doesn't help after a few days go see a different doctor and get a second opinion.
