It's rare a doctor will take the time and expense to ID a sinus infection. If the sinus infection looks like a bacterial infection the doctor will prescribe an antibiotic that treats a broad spectrum of things like Augmentin. Chances are good the bacteria causing your sinus infection will be taken care of by augmentin.
How does a doctor know which antibiotic to prescribe for sinus infections?
There really no no one tried and true anti-biotic for a doctor to prescribe. They keep up with what's going on in the medical community, figure out what microbs are currently most common and pick a medication that would treat it.
Typically sinus infections are causd by three organisms which are the most common and they select a medication which will treat them all safely and cheaply.
If one medication is not working to treat the sinus infection they may try a different one which could be beneficial.

Sinus Infection Remedy North American Herb & Spice Sinuorega
I am a chronic sinus infection sufferer so I often like trying products that are not anti-biotics to clear up my sinus infections and I recently discovered North American Herb & Spice Sinuorega.
It's a bit on the expensive side and it burns really bad, however it does seem to get out fungal buildup and infections that often prescription drugs fail to help. After using this my nasal passages are clearer than they have been in a long time. It burns and you will find yourself cringing and swearing but I swear it works for me.

Is a sinus infection contagious?
I've heard mixed things on this. No sinusitis both chronic and acute is not contagious however the cold and flu that often precedes a sinus infection is contageous. I have heard others argue that sinus infections are contagious.
Sinus infections can be bacterial, viral, or fungal. I have heard some argue that sinus infectinos that are viral can be contageous.

Sinus headache really bad please help?
I think I have a sinus infection. When I came home at 3, I took
ibuprofen for my sore throat. The headache started probably just before 5
and is only getting worse. I know it's my sinuses because all I can
feel is pressure and pain between my eyes, in my nose, on my temples and
my forehead. It's so painful I'm crying which I know is only making it
worse. Point is, I can't more pain medicine for awhile, how do I just
stop this now? I can't take it it hurts so bad. It's also my birthday
and I have other things I need to do but I can't stop crying.
Crying isn't going to help you at all it's only going to give you a worse headache and make the pressure worse. Get an ice pack and put it on your eyes, face, throat and sinuses to help with the pressur and swelling of your sinuses. Take a hot shower or put your head over a pot or bowl of hot water the steam should help thin your mucus as well. Check out this site for other natural remedies and reviews of some over the counter products and supplements and teas you can buy. Your sinus infection in my opinion has progresses to the point that personally I woudl go see a doctor and not just wait it out.

Can a sinus infection cause yellow eyes?
I'm no doctor but I have had that happen to me before and it turned out to be a very bad sinus infection. My doctor told me that the retinal fluid was being filled or replaced by mucus. At that point my sinus infection had progressed to a point I wasn't going to try natural remedies I went to a doctor an got prescribed anti-biotics.
What are the best things to drink and eat while having a sinus infection?
When you have a sinus infection you want to drink a lot of liquids. Avoid dairy products as they cause mucus production. Try to drink a lot of water. Hot liquids like tea have steam and kind of help clear the sinuses. You can also drink sport drinks like gatorade or vitamin water. The more you drink the more it helps thin your mucus. I'd also recommend using steam to help clear you up.
Doxycycline Hyclate for Sinus Infection?
Doxycycline Hyclate for Sinus Infection?
A relative of mine has some left over doxcycline hyclate for acne. I think I might have a sinus infection, but I have not been to the doctor. Would it be safe for me to take the doxycycline hyclate or should I see my doctor and get his opinion/prescription?
You should never take a friend or relatives prescription medication and you should never take medication that hasn't been prescribed to you. This is why we have anti-biotic resistant viruses and things because people take the wrong anti-biotics for the wrong problems. Because you said leftove I imagine it's just a few pills. When you take anti-biotics but don't complete the dose and don't kill the bacteria they become immune.
Also there's a good chance your sinus infection is a fungal or viral infection in which case antibiotics won't do anything anyway and you don't know that Doxycline Hyclate is even the right anti-biotic to treat what you have. Try some natural remedies, give it time, or go see a doctor and get your own prescription.

Can the flu lead to a sinus infection...yes and no. No the flu can't
cause a sinus infection. Sinus infections are caused by bacteria, virus,
or fungus. That said having a strong immune system and good overall
health is what is going to prevent a sinus infection. If your immune

viruses to get stuck in there.
Sinus Infection Remedy Sinus Infection Natural Remedy - Sinuvil
I suffer from chronic sinus infections and have tried many products and wantd to share what has worked for me and what hasn't. Sinuvil is a product I tried out and found it did work but not as well as other products I have purchased. My favorite being Alkalol.
I like to research a product and read reviews before I try it out and I wasn't able to find any clinical reviews of this product and also not many consumer reviews online either. The main ingredient in this product is pelargobnium sidoides. When I do try to research the product all I seem to find it marketing and ads touting how great this product is.
I tried this product, it does seem to help though not as well as some other products I have tried. This product is expensive and not as effective as other things I've tried so I would tell people to try it out, it may work for you but I think there's better options for the price.

How does Amoxicillin work for a sinus infection?
People often have the misconception that anti-biotics are always the go to for a sinus infection. The truth is many sinus infections are viral and not bacterial so anti-biotics won't help some sinus infections. That said anti-biotics can be a lifesaver when you have the type of bad sinus infection they do help. I like to try to avoid taking anti-biotics whenever possible but sometimes you do need them.
Amoxicillin is an anti-biotic. What an anti-biotic does is kill bacteria and/or stop bacteria from growing. With amoxicillin, it stops the bacteria from reproducing and growing, and eventually the amoicillin will kill the bacteria. Dead bacteria cells are then removed from your body.
If you do have a sinus infection caused by bacteria amoxicillin should make you feel better in a relatively short period of time. If this doesn't help after a few days go see a different doctor and get a second opinion.

Natural Cure For Sinus Infection - Apple Cider Vinegar
A simple, cost effective home remedy for a sinus infection is Apple Cider Vinegar. Many tout Apple Cider Vinegar as being a cure all for everything. I personally find it really helps with my sinus infections. Apple Cider Vinegar contains potassium.
Potassium is known to help decrease the production of mucus in your sinuses and this seems to be a helpful remedy for me and I find it to be beneficial to my sinus infections, runny nose, or even the common cold.
I like to mix 2-4 teaspoons of organic Apple Cider Vinegar, it's important to make sure its organic, in a mug of warm water and drink it. I like to do this 2-3 times per day. I find this to be an effective natural home remedy that costs very little and really helps my sinus infections.

Natural Remedy For Sinus Infections - Garlic
Another great natural remedy that doesn't require anti-biotics to help a sinus infection is natures anti-biotic...GARLIC!!!
Garlic has been said to have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Because sinus infections can be either bacterial or fungal, garlic oftentimes can be an effective natural cure.
You can consume garlic in several ways. Most health food stores, grocery stores, or pharmacies sell garlic capsules. They make no scent garlic capsules however I find they are not as effective as the ones with scent. If you can stomach the taste and your family and friends can take your breath eating fresh garlic is the most effective method. Another option is for you to put fresh chopped garlic in a mug with hot water and inhale the steam several times per day.

How can I avoid/cure frequent sinus infections?
For a sinus infection many people find nasal irrigation to be helpful. Personally I hate nose sprays let alone putting water in my nose so it's not for me but many people find it works and I hear the kind with the syringe works best. I've heard neti pots are okay but doesn't flush the sinuses like a nasal syringe does.
People tend to get sinus infections and other sinus problems in the winter time. It' likely caused by poor ventilation due to closed windows and dust particles floating around the house.
To prevent a sinus infection you should try to air out your house as much as possible, change furnace filters frequently, maybe consider getting your air ducts cleaned. If you suffer chronic sinus infections try to live in a home with wood floors and not carpets which trap dust and allergins. You can also pick up a HEPA air filter or air cleaner to get rid of airborne particles.
Many people rely on antibiotics however many are caused by virus or fungus and not bacteria therefore antibiotics won't help them. Remove any mold in your bathrooms or home or damp areas of your home.

Great Natural Remedy For Sinus Infections Royal King Sinus Buster Chinese Herbal Tea
I love Royal King Sinus Buster Chinese Herbal tea as a remedy to treat my chronic sinus infections. This tea has an interesting aroma while you are making it. The taste is quite interesting as well.
